What does sustainable development mean for the CIS Center?

What does sustainable development mean for the CIS Center?

At the global level, 17 interrelated and inseparable Sustainable Development Goals have been developed and adopted as an action plan. Sharing each of them, we have identified the key ones for ourselves - those in which our current projects can bring the greatest benefit to society and the environment. Introducing them into the company's development strategy, we keep them in mind in our daily work.

Our commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals
    • No 3: Ensuring healthy lifestyles and promoting well-being for all at all ages

Target 3.9 By 2030, substantially reduce death and illness from exposure to hazardous chemicals and air, water and soil pollution and poisoning.

Target 3.13Build the capacity of all countries, especially developing countries, in early warning, risk reduction and management of national and global health risks

      Current projects of CIS Center:

      4 projects:
      Project 1

Updating international chemical regulatory knowledge, reviewing and registering chemical product safety data sheets, and developing export safety data sheets (SDSs) to convey the supply chain and provide the consumer with correct and comprehensive information about chemical products, including their potential hazards to human health and the preventive measures to be observed in their handling.

      Project 2

Realization of the development and registration of environmental and climate declarations in order to inform about the characteristics of the product (or service) in various economic interactions, including impacts on the consumer and the environment, taking into account its life cycle.

      Project 3

Implementation of the development of both national and interstate standards conducted within the technical committees of TC 60/ITC 527 "Chemistry" and TC 339 "Safety of raw materials and substances", which help businesses to continuously improve their activities in areas such as environmental protection and health safety of workers.

      Project 4

Participation in the activities of the UN Subcommittee of Experts on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (SGS) in order to introduce into national legislation advanced approaches in the field of assessing the impact of chemical products on the health of present and future generations, taking into account possible long-term consequences.

We believe that sustainable development goals can only be achieved by cooperation action, so we are always open to cooperation and participation in new projects to create a sustainable future
No 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

Target 4.4 By 2030, substantially increase the number of youth and adults with in-demand skills, including vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs, and entrepreneurial activities.

      Current projects of CIS Center:

      2 projects:
      Project 1

Round tables and seminars on the preparation of enterprises of the chemical complex for the introduction of TR EAEU 041/2017, including the preparation of safety data sheets and warning labeling of chemical products (in the development of a course on environmental declarations).

      Project 2

Organization of the annual international chemical conference of the CIS Center on topical issues of regulation of chemical products circulation with the participation of international experts and representatives of the OECD Committee on Chemistry. Participation in conferences with reports on the system of regulation of chemicals in the Russian Federation and the latest updates in legislation.

No 9: Creating sustainable infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization and innovation

Target 9.4 By 2030, modernize infrastructure and retrofit industrial plants, making them sustainable through improved resource efficiency and increased use of clean and environmentally friendly technologies and industrial processes, with the participation of all countries according to their individual capabilities

      Current project of CIS Center:

      Project 1

Development of the Information and Analytical System «Mayak» (IAS Mayak) to modernize the design, maintenance and tracking of chemical product documentation, which contributes to the creation of a sustainable industrial infrastructure.

N° 12: Ensure transition to sustainable consumption and production models

Target 12.4 By 2020, achieve environmentally sound management of chemicals and all wastes throughout their life cycle in accordance with agreed international principles and significantly reduce their release into air, water and soil to minimize their adverse effects on human health and the environment.

Target 12.5 By 2030, significantly reduce waste through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse measures.

Target 12.6 Encourage companies, especially large and multinational companies, to adopt sustainable production methods and reflect information on resource management in their reports

      Current projects of CIS Center:

      7 projects:
      Project 1

Accurate identification of the component (ingredient) composition of chemical products, which is the basis for the development of safety data sheets and SDS, hazard assessment and confirmation of compliance of chemical products with the requirements of Russian and foreign regulatory documents (for example, REACH Regulation for EC) and other processes related to the regulation of chemical products.

      Project 2

Implementation of Interlaboratory Comparison Tests (ICT) at national and international levels (GOST, ISO and ASTM methods) in order to confirm laboratory qualification in accordance with their accreditation scope, form appropriate laboratory base in all RF regions and improve laboratory performance quality.

      Project 3

Development of both national and intergovernmental standards, conducted within the technical committees of TC 60/ITC 527 "Chemistry" and TC 339 "Safety of raw materials and substances" which help the enterprises to constantly improve their activities in such areas as environmental protection and health safety.

      Project 4

Conduct a product life cycle assessment study according to ISO 14040-14044 which can assess the environmental, economic, social and environmental impacts of product and waste management systems. Versatile in its kind, the LCA method is used in almost all industries.

      Project 5

Implementation of a process to develop environmental and climate declarations used to inform customers about the potential environmental impacts of a product, in order to achieve environmentally sustainable use of the product throughout its life cycle.

      Project 6

Registration of Type III Environmental Declarations and Climate Declarations developed in accordance with ISO 14025 with the International System of Environmental Declarations. Registration of declarations in the internationally recognized EPD system allows domestic companies to potentially expand the market presence of their products in Europe, Asia, America and other countries around the world.
